Hello there, good morning. How are you today? I was wondering if you could spare Only five minutes of your busy day I’ve got a deal you don’t wanna reject Not too bad myself, thanks. How’d you do? Are you always as direct and true with any random strangers walking down the road as when you’re paid to sell your soul? I would have loved to meet you somewhere else on a break from the daily grind Why don’t we just pretend that we never met and we just leave it all to fate? Alright then just say what you gotta say like I had nothing else to do today You don’t care if I don’t feel like saying a word if I was dumped just before I came Imagine we’re just passengers on a train and your stop was calling next If I just started talking as you’re walking away Would you ride with me up to the end? I would have loved to meet you somewhere else on a break from the daily grind Why don’t we just pretend that we never met and we just leave it all to fate? Here we go all flocking through the baffle gates to burn whatever we could earn There’s still a big void that needs topping up Now watch your bag. Don’t you lag behind Come on cut it out. Not thinking twice You almost got me. Now I’m back on track Last night I had my stuff all figured out You gotta travel light so you can fly I would have loved to meet you somewhere else on a break from the daily grind Why don’t we just pretend that we never met and we just leave it all to fate?

Dark Side 03:27
You used to be one of us You used to bleed just like us Always looking for excuses to lose your faith Never finding any reason to trust You used to be one of us You used to hurt just like us Always looking for some hero to put the blame Oh baby you’re so easily let down And then you gave in to hate Will you ever come back? Will you ever come back home from the dark side? Yeah you gave in to hate Will you ever come back? Will you ever come back home from the dark side? Home from the dark side I hope that someone else can change your mind Are you really prepared to pay the price? Because it’s gonna be high, high, high And where you’re going baby I can’t chase you down You used to be one of us, you used to be one of us You used to be one of us, you used to be one of us You used to be one of us, you used to be one of us You used to be one of us, you used to be one of us You used to be one of us, you used to be one of us You used to be one of us, you used to be one of us

One More Try 03:33
I could drink a thousand gallons and I still wouldn’t kill my thirst There’s no way to stop this hunger without trying to eat you first Well my body’s feeling weary but my mind can get no rest And I struggle to find the words. Yeah I keep trying to find the words But when I’m almost there someone else gets on my way. I don’t need you to lay the groundwork. Need no carpet at my feet You don’t have to ask the Universe to amend my destiny ‘Cause it’s written from the very first day although I’m riding against the wind I’m just trying to find my way. Yeah I keep trying to find my way. But I could kill this thirst if I could get just one more try One more try, one more try is all I need to get this right One more try, one more try is all I need this time. One more try. Now take me downtown where things get real Take me downtown where things get real Take me downtown where things get real Take me downtown where things get real Take me, take me, take me, take me, take me, take me, take me, take me Take me downtown where things get real Take me downtown where things get real. One more try, one more try is all I need to get this right One more try, one more try is all I need this time. One more try.

I heard bells toll but not for you You can count yourself lucky again But when you stand by the mirror You can’t even stare at your face ‘cause you’re scared to say those simple words That is not love and you know it You shouldn’t have to lose yourself That is not love, you just know it Then why don’t you just get out of that place? Before we hear your name on the news “My body’s a temple”, you hear them say But only yours from the cradle to the grave And when you sit by the mirror You wanna look at your face And be able to say those words That is not love and you know it You shouldn’t have to lose yourself That is not love, you just know it Then why don’t you just get out of that place? Before we hear your name on the news We don’t want you to become a story That ends up burning in some fireplace A forsaken phantom from the past That keeps haunting me at 4am Just to deliver the unspoken words That is not love and you know it You shouldn’t have to lose yourself That is not love, you just know it Then why don’t you just get out of that place? Before we hear your name on the news

This time we’re here to stay until the break of day We’ll chase the ghosts away into the lightness Behind a bitter smile [we all have scars] In the middle of the wisest frown [we all have scars] Before you learnt to raise your brow We all have scars [How come we never talk about it?] We all have scars [How come we never talk about it?] We all have scars Do I really need to show mine? Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! We’ll plant those seeds again We’ll write another page It should be enough to shake off the cobwebs Behind a bitter smile [we all have scars] In the middle of the wisest frown [we all have scars] Before you learnt to raise your brow We all have scars [How come we never talk about it?] We all have scars [How come we never talk about it?] We all have scars Do I really need to show mine? Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!

Secret Life 03:47
Barry’s got two faces and a secret life And no one else can understand why He struggles through the day like a sore vampire And shelters in The City ‘til dark But as the moon goes up and the sun goes down He turns into this Rock & Roll star White collar in the day, black leather in the night It’s way too much for anyone He had a flying V tattooed across his chest His colleagues wouldn’t know what that means But if you looked behind the pile of boring paperwork You wouldn’t find the guy you came to see But as the moon goes up and the sun goes down He turns into this Rock & Roll star White collar in the day, black leather in the night It’s way too much for anyone The minute he hits the stage tonight He’ll make you wanna burn your tie Your life will pass across your eyes When he plays that riff that breaks your heart He lives in Camden Town with this wolverine They share a tiny mezzanine Where you can iron your shirt on a wooden surfboard And you can always squeeze another 12-inch But when the moon goes up and the sun goes down He turns into this Rock & Roll star White collar in the day, black leather in the night It’s way too much for anyone The minute he hits the stage tonight He’ll make you wanna burn your tie Your life will pass across your eyes When he plays that riff that breaks your heart Barry’s got two faces and a secret life And I will keep your secret if you can keep mine Yes I can keep your secret if just keep mine No I won’t give away your fears I won’t tell no one ‘cause we all hide some secret We all know some stuff Yes I will keep your secret, I will carry it inside I will keep your secret if you can keep mine But when the moon goes up and the sun goes down He turns into this Rock & Roll star White collar in the day, black leather in the night It’s way too much for anyone The minute he hits the stage tonight He’ll make you wanna burn your tie Your life will pass across your eyes When he plays that riff that breaks your heart Barry’s got two faces and a secret life

Why does the moon look so empty tonight? Do you know? Do you know? Do you know? Was it something I said that drove Hecate mad? Do you know? Do you know? Do you know? Oh I wish I had all the answers right now But sometimes it’s just easier to run for your life And go find sanctuary in the cemetery grounds, in the cemetery grounds We took shelter in the graveyard The only place where we could find peace Among martyrs and victims we could finally breathe The only ones who really feel free The only ones who really feel free Oh! Free! Free! How come our planets don’t align in the sky? Do you know? Do you know? Do you know? And when did our shadows stop following us? Do you know? Do you know? Do you know? Oh I wish I had all the answers right now But sometimes it’s just easier to run for your life And go find sanctuary in the cemetery grounds, in the cemetery grounds We took shelter in the graveyard The only place where we could find peace Among martyrs and victims we could finally breathe The only ones who really feel free The only ones who really feel free Oh! Free! Free!

Save your love You chose a wrong day to die This life of hope is real Before you drink shake your glass one more time These games you crave can kill And now I’m walking alone now And now I’m walking alone now Tell me love Where’d you go late at night? You play a wrong way to kill And now I’m walking alone now And now I’m walking alone now And now I’m walking alone now And now I’m walking alone now

Blame on Me 02:58
It was dark, it was late, it was a mess, no one cared I was tired, you were sick I was only one in a million but you put the blame on me I was only a pawn in their game but you put the blame on me You blamed it on me, you put the blame on me On my past, on my fate ‘cause I’m strange ‘cause I care for no more than a flame I was only one in a million but you put the blame on me I was only a pawn in their game but you put the blame on me You blamed it on me, on me, on me You put the blame on me I was only one in a million but you put the blame on me You blamed it on me, you put the blame on me I was only a pawn in their game but you put the blame on me You blamed it on me, on me, on me

Where were you in the hard times? When we didn't have a clue what we were after. And where were you when we were laughed at? Do you still feel jealous of me? Do you still feel jealous of me? Life is too long to waste it with people who make it seem eternal And how can you be so jealous of me when I'm standing under the spotlight? You wanna take some heat and feel the sweat that's dripping down my backbone? Where were you in the hard times? When we didn't have a clue what we were after. And where were you when we were laughed at? Are you still jealous of me? You wanna swap now? It's the lifestyle that we chose we pay the price when it takes its toll on us Before the claps, before the cheers, before the awards and photos If you could only see us back before I could afford to look cool Where were you in the hard times? When we didn't have a clue what we were after. And where were you when we were laughed at? Do you still feel jealous of me? Do you still feel jealous of me? Where were you in the hard times? Where were you in the hard times? Where were you in the hard times? Where were you in the hard times? Where were you in the hard times? Where were you in the hard times? Where were you in the hard times? Where were you in the hard times? Are you still jealous of me? Are you still jealous of me? Are you still jealous of me? You wanna swap now?

about

Harvey Springfield's sixth solo album "Dark Sides", comes out on Friday 1st March 2024, only four months after his fifth outing “Sick Sick World”.

The new album explores the blind spots of the human psyche. The characters in these songs are haunted by their own ghosts while battling with individual and interpersonal issues such as men’s mental health stigma, domestic violence, social anxiety and jealousy.

The anthemic “Leave it to Fate” kicks off the collection with the story of a hopeless romantic who chooses fate and serendipity over casual encounters.

“Dark Side” dwells on betrayal and uses the Star Wars jargon to revert the sci-fi metaphor by revealing the reality of someone seduced by neo-nazi ideals.

“That Is Not Love” is Harvey’s second take on emotional abuse after “Change the News” released in 2021. The new one is written from the point of view of the victim’s friends trying to help to prevent a tragedy.

“Secret Life” was released as a single for Halloween last year. It’s a vampire story-tale set in Camden Town about how underground artists manage to juggle a day job and a music career in the evening, particularly in big cities where they struggle to pay the rent.

The waltzy ballad “Shelter in the Graveyard” may sound like necrophilia but it depicts a couple of misfits who suffer from social anxiety and seek comfort in the peace and quiet of a cemetery.

The 007 fans will quickly identify the cinematic “Wrong Day to Die” as a tribute to the “Bond song” subgenre.

“Dark Sides” is a complex work of psychological depth and lush arrangements which make it reminiscent of Manic Street Preachers, Arcade Fire, War on Drugs and U2. It sits in a sweet spot between Indie-Rock, Post-Punk and Dark Pop.
